Month Two Favorites

month two favorites

month two favorites by allthingskatiemarie on Polyvore

After getting a better grip on this parenting thing, I have discovered some must have items this past month.
1. Pampers Swaddlers- After trying a few different brands of diapers, these are definitely my favorite. They fit great, have a line down the center that turns blue when the diaper is wet, and has been great on Taylor's skin. No diaper rashes or blowouts yet!
2. Car mirror- Now that we're out and about a little more, this mirror has been nice. I hate that I can't see her in the carseat since it's rear facing, but the mirror enables me to see her sweet little face (usually passed out) while driving.
3. Baby Bjorn Carrier- I'm amazed at what I can accomplish with this carrier on! Vacuuming, dishes, laundry, etc. Some days Taylor just wants to be held all the time. Well, now she can and I can still get stuff done! The best of snuggling and multitasking in one!
4. Rock n' Play- Taylor has been sleeping in this for a few weeks and absolutely loves it. The crib was just a little too open and free for such a little peanut. This is similar to a hammock and molds to her body so she's snug and secure. It's been a great sleeping tool and since it has a slight incline, it also helps reduce spit up from late night feedings.
5. Play yard- A tummy time must! I'm so happy that she can actually benefit from this toy now. I'll place her under this mat for 20 minutes and she's a happy camper!
6. - Little Yellow Chick Blanket- This blanket is SO soft and fuzzy! It's a great size (24 x 24 inches) to snuggle with while Taylor is in her car seat or swing. I want one in my size!
7. Humidifier- This has been really nice to use during this cold and flu season. We fill it up and place it in her room nightly to help keep the air damp and clear her nose and lungs.

Throwback Thursday ~ Moss Covered Letters

I love looking into my backyard and admiring my moss letters. Check out my throwback of these DIY letters!

I originally bought these "B & K" letters for wedding decor. Well, that's come and gone and now they have just been sitting in a closet.

I decided to cover them in moss and use them as outdoor decor. Since I already had the letters and plenty of hot glue stick refills, the whole project only cost me about $10 for the moss!

WARNING: extremely messy project! Lay down newspaper, plastic, etc. on the table that you are working on and have a vacuum near by!

Beginning stages of project
To cover the letters, all I did was hot glued large pieces of moss to each letter. The tricky part was wrapping the moss around the letter to give it the proper shape. To do this, I glued the edges and back side, then I used an old pencil to roll the moss against the letter, that way I wouldn't burn my fingers, although plenty of that did happen regardless!

Here's the end result!

Cookie Dough Brownies

These never seem to stay on a plate for very long when I take them to parties. Who doesn't love brownies and cookie dough? Better yet, who doesn't love them together? Thank you Sallys Baking Addiction and The Hub of Our Home for this delicious recipe!

I used a box mix, but you can obviously use any brownie recipe of your liking. Here is the recipe from The Hub of Our Home
Brownie Batter
1 Cup Butter, melted
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Brown Sugar
4 Eggs
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
 1/3 Cup Cocoa
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
2 Cups Flour
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.  In your mixer add the butter and sugars.  Mix until completely combined.  Add the eggs and vanilla.  Mix well.  Add the dry ingredients and stir until fully incorporated.  Spread the batter in a greased 9x13 inch pan.  Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean or with just a few crumbs.  Cool completely before frosting.
And here is the recipe from Sallys Baking Addiction for the amazing frosting!
 Cookie Dough Frosting
1/2 Cup Butter, softened
3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 and 1/4 Cup Flour
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
5 Tablespoons Milk
1 Cup Chocolate Chips(mini or regular)
Cream together the butter and sugar.  Add the vanilla and mix well.  Add the flour and salt stir until combined.  Stir in the milk and beat until the frosting is fluffy.  Gently stir in the chocolate chips.  Spread on cooled brownies and frost.

Throwback Thursday ~ Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Cakes's time to bake! This weeks throwback is of some delicious cupcakes!

I ran across this recipe online and couldn't be more pleased with the outcome! WARNING: pour cold glass of milk when eating finished product! The peanut butter frosting deliciousness is intense!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Cupcakes
Recipe by Our Best Bites
1 Duncan Hines yellow or white cake mix
1 cup sour cream (full-fat or light, but not fat-free)
3 eggs
1/4 cup canola oil
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
24 unwrapped mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Chocolate Frosting:
1/4 cup melted butter (real butter, not margarine)
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 pound powdered sugar
3 tablespoons evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Peanut Butter Frosting:
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1/4 cup  real butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2-3 tablespoons (or more) of milk (you can use some of the leftover evaporated milk; it’s awesome in this frosting)
Preheat oven to 350. Line 2 12-cup muffin tins with cupcake liners and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine all the cupcake ingredients except for the peanut butter cups with an electric mixer on medium-low speed for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl frequently. Turn the speed to high and beat for another 3 minutes.
Fill each muffin cup about 1/2 full with batter. Top with an unwrapped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup , then fill the muffin cups with the remaining batter. Make sure the Peanut Butter Cups are covered and the cups are about 3/4 full. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until the tops are golden. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.
While the cupcakes are cooling, prepare the frostings. For both frostings, just combine all the ingredients for each one and whip until light and fluffy, adding additional milk as needed.

Baby's First Year Calendar

The thought of creating a baby book seems so overwhelming. I can hardly organize my pictures into folders on my computer. How the heck am I supposed to take tons of pictures, videos, and write down every single milestone?
Well, my sister-in-law found this awesome calendar by Carter's. It's so great and makes keeping track of milestones super easy and convenient! I hung it up in the nursery so I can easily just jot down milestones on the calendar as they happen. At the end of the year, all I have to do is look back at the calendar for exact dates to add to my baby book.  The calendar comes with stickers that also make it easy to add on dates.

Such a great product! What are some ways that you've managed to keep track of milestones with your children?

Weight Loss Motivation

Alrighty, time to air out my dirty laundry. During my pregnancy I gained 27 pounds. I was pretty comfortable with that number being that the recommended weight gain for my size/build was 25-35 pounds.  No biggie. Thankfully, the first seventeen pounds just fell right off in the first two weeks. Pretty awesome, but the last 10 pounds have been so difficult to lose! To help motivate myself, I created these jars to get a visual of my goal.

I would weight myself at the end of each week and move over a ball from the "weight gained" jar to the "weight lost" jar. It was a very satisfying task and by only doing it weekly, I could get a good sense of how I was progressing. I'm so happy to report that I have lost all of my baby weight at this point, but I know it will be a struggle to maintain my current, pre-baby weight.
How did I do it? First and most important, I didn't allow myself to pig out during my entire pregnancy. Yes, I'll admit. The last month I was so uncomfortable and miserable that I just stuffed my face and napped all day. But, the majority of my pregnancy I managed to stay active, drink plenty of water, and eat healthy. I definitely think that helped me lose the majority of the weight.
Once I was given permission from my doctor to workout, I started up on my stationary bike. Being that it's winter and so cold out, I didn't want to take Taylor on runs outside. I've been using my stationary bike along with this DVD whenever Taylor naps. It's an awesome DVD and is super fun! I can do it any time of the day and can stay nice and warm in my house while watching Taylor sleep. It's been my saving grace and helped me lose those last, stubborn 10 pounds.
Along with exercising, eating healthy is key. I haven't been counting calories or dieting necessarily. I'm just trying to eat as healthy as possible when I can without depriving myself of foods I love (dessert, mainly!)
What do you use to motivate you? I totally think having a visual reminder of your goal is helpful!

Throwback Thursday ~ Game Night

I think it's time to host a party! Looking back at this throwback of my game night has me thinking it's time to get creative and do something fun!

I recently had a few couples over for a fun little game night and thought I would share some of my ideas, and some other great ideas I found online!

I used a little modge podge and craft paper to spruce up typical white boards

Small cups filled with papers for the games.

Amazing gummy bears infused with vodka!
One of my favorite games we played was the newly wed game! I got a list of questions off  this website. Rather than use her templates, I just printed each question on a piece of paper and we all took turns drawing a questions. Way too much fun!
Here are some other adorable ideas I found online to inspire you to host your very own game night!
