Bathroom Makeover

Our guest bathroom was so blah. I pretty much just threw in whatever old decor we had from our college days and just closed the door. During winter break I decided it was time for a change! We painted the entire room, painted the cabinets, got all new decor and accessories, changed the faucets, and changed the light fixtures! Finally, a bathroom with matching hardware and accessories. What a brilliant concept! No more brown/gold/silver...all brushed nickel! Even just matching up the faucets and light fixtures made a huge difference! It's really the small things in life that make me happy :)

Here was our blah bathroom before:

We had oak cupboards (not loving those!) and mismatched faucets that were gold and silver. The light fixtures were brown and the walls were a terrible brown. Nothing matched and it was just all wrong!

A little TLC, and here's what it has transformed into!

Newly painted cabinets!
To paint the cabinets, I simply sanded lightly by hand. I painted three coats total, allowing 24 hours between each coat to dry. The cabinet paint color is Benjamin Moore "Dragon's Breath."
The wall paint color is from Valspar and is called "Metropolis." The chevron shower curtain is from Urban Outfitters and the rugs are from Target. Using wood, paint, and wood glue,we were able to frame in the mirror. It was much easier than I thought!
Accessories are from various stores. The candle and vase is from TJMaxx, the picture frame is from Pier1, and the soap dispenser if from Target.

I love the sign in this room! I feel like it sums up my life :) I purchased it at TJMaxx.

The white picture frames are from Pier1, the gray towels are from Target, and the white hand towels are from Etsy.

We purchased all new fixtures that are brushed nickel, painted, and got fun new accessories! Our old, drab bathroom is now fun and fabulous! What do you think of our new room?

Here are some "before" and "after" pictures.

Oreo Mousse Pudding

There are no words to describe how amazing this dessert is. It's really really really really really really yummy! Rich, creamy, chocolate mousse pudding with Oreos really hits all the dessert necessities.

Ingredients:

16 fl oz whipping cream, cold

2 tablespoons sugar

4 packages of Jello instant pudding

8 cups cold milk (for Jello pudding)

1 pack Oreos

1 (1ounce) square semi-sweet chocolate, to shave for garnish

Preparation:

-Crush the package of Oreos. I’ve found the best way to do this is to place the Oreos in a large Ziplock bag and crush them with a rolling pin. No mess and it works great!

-Prepare Jello according to directions. Set in refrigerator for 5 minutes.

-In a mixing bowl, add the cold cream and begin whipping. Once thickened slightly, sprinkle in the sugar and finish whipping just until stiff peaks form. Set aside for a moment.

-In medium-large bowl, add 2 cups of the chocolate pudding (reserving the remaining pudding) and begin adding the whipped cream to it in several increments, gently folding in to keep a fluffy and light consistency, as this is the “chocolate mousse” part of the dessert; once all whipped cream is incorporated, set aside and prepare glasses.

To Assemble:

-Layer desired amounts of mousse, pudding, and Oreos. I sprinkled Oreos between each layer.

-Garnish with Oreo crumbs and chocolate shavings.

Front Door Makeover

Our front door was in desperate need of a little TLC.   I'm not even sure what to call the original color...an auburn/faded/ugly hot mess! I loved my wreath and door mat, and that's about it!
Before
One lazy Sunday morning I decided it was time to finally (almost 2 years later!) paint this disastrous door! I settled on Valspar's Roasted Sepia. In no time at all, my front door was completely transformed! I snagged two tall pots from Home Goods ($25 each!!), tied some burlap on my existing wreath, and just like that- I was done!

After
I was pretty pleased with the outcome. It's amazing what some boredom and paint can do!
