Gifts in a Timely Fashion

My husband and I just celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary (whoo hoo!) and I decided on this idea for his present. I got him six presents and had him open them every two hours-starting at 8:26am (the day we got married- 8/26/2011) and ending at 8:26pm. Each bag had a different present in it, some big and some small. It was a fun little way to celebrate throughout the day and would be great for any occasion!

Heart Attack Brownies

These brownies are my absolute favorite (I feel like I say that about every brownie I bake). They're border line fudge. Regardless, they're amazing. Chocolate overload!!!

12 ounces of bitter sweet chocolate
6 eggs
1 ¾ cups sugar
1 tablespoons vanilla
1 ½ cups + 2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup white chocolate chips
½ cup semi sweet chocolate chips
To bake:
*Preheat oven to 350. Line 13x9 pan with parchment paper.
*Melt butter and dark chocolate chips together on low heat.
*beat eggs, sugar, and vanilla together.
*allow chocolate to cool, then add to mix. Beat well.
*add flour and salt.
*stir chips in.
*pour and bake 35 minutes.

Closet Makeover

I love my husband, but I sure do wish we didn't have to share our closet! In my dream home, I visualize a huge, beautiful, gorgeous closet all to myself!!Aaaahhhh... But...I have to work with what I have! And what I have is a small closet. Here's a before and after picture of our small closet:

I had to figure out a way to utilize every inch of that closet! Here's how I did just that:

1. First, I installed drawers and shoe organizers in the center shelves. To do this, I simply bought Closetmaid organizers from Target. Rather than place the whole unit in the shelf, my fabulously handy husband actually build them into the shelf. I added some new handles, and Ta Da! My very own custom closet!

"Built in" shelves.

2. I also had to make good use of the additional shelves towards the top of our closet.  I bought some baskets to help sort my purses, sweaters, etc.

3. To store my boots, I placed them on the top shelf. I put file folders in each pair to help keep it's shape and to prevent the boots from falling over.

4. My various long necklaces hang from a "T" rack I bought at TJ Maxx.

5. I added additional shoe storage on the top shelf as well as below my husbands very tiny closet section. Since the space below the clothes was wide open, I needed to utilize the extra room!
If you squint, you can see my husbands very limited closet space.

After extensive organization, almost every inch of our closet has been occupied! Now, if I could only somehow expand the closet...I'll keep dreaming for now!

Back to School Activity

One of the most beneficial things to do on the first day of school is figure out how the heck all of the students get to and from school! Here's a little poster I made to keep track of everyone.

It only took five minutes and is a great "getting to know you" activity for the first day of school.

Katie's Closet

One thing I love about being a teacher is that I still get the opportunity to go back to school shopping! Any excuse to go shopping is a great one! I just wanted to share some if my favorite items I bought. I can't wait to mix these items into my existing wardrobe!

I love this sweater from Old Navy . So many ways to mix and match it.

Obsessed with my new jacket from Express

These shoes are so fun! Sperry Top Sider makes the most comfortable shoes.
Bring on the rain! I couldn't resist some fun rain boots from Target .

So happy to add this Michael Kors watch to my growing watch collection.
Hello casual Friday! These polka dot Converse from  Delias are so fun!

Bridal Shower Decor

I went to a beautiful bridal shower recently, and just wanted to share some of the cute decor! The shower had a tea party theme and the colors were coral and teal. Very cute!

Cute silverware and fan on each place setting.

Centerpieces consisted of large mason jars with beautiful flower.

Tea cup centerpieces.

What a great idea for displaying photos!

Paper lanterns were hung throughout the venue.

I loved the chalkboard labels.

Great way to display mini cheesecakes! (One's missing-It wasn't me!)

Too cute!! LOVE these cookies!

Every tea party must have tea sandwiches! I loved the little decorative toothpicks.

My Very Own Classroom

I'm so excited to start my very first year of teaching! It's going to be such a fun year and I'm thrilled to be working with my class.

If only this were true!

After weeks of prepping, I can happily say that my classroom is nice and organized! I wanted to share some of my favorite organizational ideas, decorations, and thoughts with you.

Here's my daily schedule. I decided to put it on the white board so I can easily make changes and post the day to day activities. I like to erase it once we're done so the students can physically see that we're all done with that subject. I used this AMAZING white board tape to section off items on my white boards. It's super cute- green with white polka dots!

This is one of my favorite bulletin boards in my room! I got the idea from Pinterest and then added a few of my own touches. The background is the classified adds from a newspaper. I then posted the classroom jobs, description of the job, and the salary (with our classroom economy, of course! NOT real money!) I laminated the jobs so that I can simply erase the names of the employee after their weekly duties are over.

I included a pocket for job applications. Each week, students who are interested in a job must apply for it and are then interviewed.

Once again, the fabulous white board tape came in handy! This board is for students to look to for guidance when they finish work early. The "Must Do" side is things that are very important and the students absolutely must complete them. Once everything on the "Must Do" list is completed, the may choose any activity from "May Do" list.

Simple way to organize school supplies. The tubs are from the $1 store. I printed the labels from Better Homes and Gardens .

I saw a wooden sign similar to this on Pinterest. I decided to make it on white butcher paper and laminate it. It's a much cuter way to display the class rules.

Once again, Pinterest to the rescue! Nothing like being prepped and organized!

Storage and counter space is limited in my class. To keep construction paper neat and organized, I decided to hang them in file folders in my file cabinet. No messes (hopefully!)

My only forms of storage. My beloved filing cabinets.

I had to add a cute little touch to my filing cabinets with some labels I designed.

Patio Makeover

We have slate tiles in our patio, and while they look great, they can be a lot of maintenance. Once a year, they need to be sealed in order to keep the wet, glossy look. Here is a look at the before and after pictures:

Here is the step by step process for bringing your slate tiles back to life:
1. Pressure wash area (we did it twice to make sure it's extra clean.)
2. Once area is completely dry, rub on quikrete sealer by hand. Using a roller will sometimes leave streaks. For the best look, seal by hand.
3. Allow time for the first coat to completely dry. If necessary, rub on another coat of sealer.

Quikrete  can be purchased at most home improvement stores.

After many hours of hard work, our patio tiles have been restored to their original look!
